Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.52 percent to 3,302.8 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.16 percent higher at 10,576.41 points.
The combined turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses stood at nearly 1.93 trillion yuan (about 270.9 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.91 trillion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to wind power equipment and photovoltaic equipment led the gains, while those in the entertainment and textile sectors suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.53 percent to close at 2,205.3 points Wednesday. ■
